Four go to Dorset. 8th August.
We start of at 10:15 from the lock Keeper pub, Mark, Shirley and myself, two bikes, Mark in the lead, heading into Keynsham, cutting through to the Wellsway out of keynsham and across to A37, stopping in Shepton Mallet to pick up Malcolm, after a phone call from Malcolm to Mark, telling him he forgot to stop, he was not impressed, I was just in denial. We continue down to Thorners farm shop where we stop for breakfast and a wander round the shop, yes I brought a pie for later. Mark saying how good they are, it had to be tested, he wasn't wrong.
47 minutes so far, 22miles & over cast.
We leave, continuing down to Yeovil via the A37 joining the A303 & the suns out now, then onto A3088 back to A37 to head down to Dorchester, Mark's knowledge of the area kicked in now, taking us through Dorchester, down through the scenic back routes dropping us into the backend of Weymouth and we couldn't see the sea, yes we were driving through mist now, which turned into rain for the last ten minutes in to Weymouth, never seen Weymouth so wet and empty of people, drinks time, out of the rain obviously.
1hr 16 min 49 miles.
After drinks and a chin wag, we head home. It's too wet to wander about, water proofs on we head off, this time out on the main road back up the A354. Back up to the A35, turning on to it was like some one flicked a switch from wet roads to dry & no more rain, we continue across to one of Marks favorite roundabouts, he loves it so much he made us ride completely round it just so we can admire it, real terms he missed the junction, back onto A37 then follow all the way back to Yeovil, on to the A3088, onto the A303 stopping at the Podimore services for our last stop and cuppa. A faster return.
57minutes, 39 miles and over cast.
Last break over, and water proofs removed, we return to the A37 and head home, traffic is heavy now and slow. There were some nice drivers out there, that tuck them self to the curbs so we could pass, cheers to those guys. Malcolm went his own way at Shepton Mallet following the tractor that was holding us up. Mark, Shirley and myself retraced our steps back in to Keynsham, where we parted ways.
59 minutes, 32 miles and still over cast and getting dark.
Very chilled day of riding with very mixed weather, but as always good company.
142 miles 4hrs 30 ish mins of riding time.
