Lynmouth ride out 18th-July.
We gathered at the Willy Wicket pub. Mark and Shirley, Darren, Mike, Malcolm, Max and myself were there by 9 am.
We headed off, towards Gordano services where we picked up Steve and Cëcile around 930.
A quick hello and we follow the M5 down to Bridgwater, junction 23, onto the A38, in towards Bridgwater where we did our first tea break.
A coffee later we continue down the A38 cutting across to the A39 via Wylds Road. Making unexpected good pace as traffic was light ,we head towards Minehead and before we knew it we had passed it and were on our way to Porlock hill, Porlock hill conquered by us all safely, it wasn't long before we enter Lynmouth.
Good to get our photos taken by “biker pics” as we dropped down the hill as we entered the town.
Temperature is rapidly rising but the ride up was comfortable enough, an hour or so later
we leave. Temperature was ok but we were by the sea, we head back down A39, down Porlock Hill, hampered by seriously slow car drivers, we could walked faster, we start feeling the temp as we go back in land, we follow the A39 back down to Bridgewater but the journey took longer and we were feeling it, we stopped at the same services as we did in on way up, we are all melting by now, hence I drench my bike gear in water to cool it down, it didn't stay wet long, a cool drink later
Andy leaves us to go his separate way home, the rest of us head off, and then Steve and Cëcile depart the group to go their separate ways. We follow the A39 towards Glastonbury and Wells which at which point Malcolm left the party to make is way home.
Stopping again in Farrington Gurney for more liquid refreshments, it was so hot now that our sweat was sweating, we continue up A37 where we lose Max to make his way home as we turn on to A39 towards Bath turning onto b3116 into Keynsham, once I hit Marina I left Mark, Shirley, Mike and Darren to head on home.
170 approx miles.
And another very hot but good ride.
Pete.
