Weston breakfast ride, 24th-July.
Due to afternoon commitments it had to be an early start and return, so I decided on a going somewhere for breakfast and Weston it was.
We gathered at the Marina to leave at 9, 4 bikes Mike Howell, David Harris, and new to the group Andy Pyatt, and myself, leaving at 9:15 as we hung on just in case anyone was running late, myself lead bike, Mike back marker, out of Keynsham, via a regular route the Wellsway, out on A39, heading towards A37 across roundabout and onto A368 and down towards Chew valley lakes, traffic is not the fasted but we're moving, also taking into consideration it's Andy first ride with us, I needed to learn how he rides, but it showed quickly at the lakes when I over took a car and tractor and he made his move safely and caught us up, he was fitting in nicely, traffic was heavy and we got brought to a standstill at Banwell village waiting for a coach to squeeze through the tiny village,
But once clear of it we had a smooth steady ride down locking Road and to the front where we parked up in the bike park.
Victorian cafe on the sea front was chosen for our food and drinks, and after a catch-up with everyone and getting to know Andy P as it's his first adventure with us, we make our move home.
But straight home is never on the books, it's via cheddar so we go along the sea front, David is in the lead now, out along A370 joining the A38 heading back towards Bristol turning on to A371 towards Cheddar, and on to B3135 into cheddar, my self-dropping out of the group to fill up at the garage, joining the others at Riverside Inn, guided in by Mike on the headset,
Coffee, teas and shandy's later we are on the move up through cheddar gorge, myself in lead again, if you could call it moving, it was heaving it, I didn't get out of first gear the whole way up to the end of the shops, I never seen it so packed, cars were crawling along trying to find spaces that didn't exist, large vehicles and parked cars added to it all, eventually we got to the gorge and that was teaming with cyclist and with car drivers that wouldn't pass them it was slow all the way up, but eventually a few straights and a few throttle blips we left it all behind, David turning off half way along the B3135 to find his way home, the rest of us head to the A39 then onto A37 up toward Midsomer Norton, Andy P leaves us at this point making his way home, Mike and my self head on back along A39 to Keynsham dropping down into it and passed the marina which is my stop
And ends a short, but excellent ride, thanks to David, Mike H, and Andy P for the company
Pete.
